Daedalus, as the Greek myth goes, was a talented Athenian craftsman, inventor and architect who was commissioned to build the Labyrinth for King Minos of Crete to imprison the Minotaur, a monster with the body of a man and the head of bull. King Minos imprisoned Daedalus and his son Icarus in the labyrinth themselves because Daedalus revealed the route to Ariadne who in turn help Teseus to kill the Minotaur and escape from the Labyrinth.

After being confined in the labyrinth, Daedalus fashioned wings of feathers and wax for himself and Icarus to escape from Crete. He warned Icarus not to fly too close to the sun, as the wax would melt, nor too close to the sea, as the feathers would become saturated and heavy. But Icarus was hubris and disobedience and soared too close to sun, and he fell into the sea and drowned as the wax melted. The saying" donot fly too close to the sun" is often used metaphorically to warn against excessive ambition or recklessness, serving as a caution about the dangers of arrogance, hubris, or ignoring sound advice.
